[Honda-C70] Re: Thanks Jon Pardue for the LED write up!

Well Jon, I hate to say it but I failed. Even after I put in the LED flasher I could not get everything to work together. In frustration I removed the diodes, put the incandescent bulbs back in the signals but left the LED flasher and LED's in the speedometer. At least I have working turn signals again. I really needed to do this anyway because my old one was weak and would not flash except at high rpm.

Here is a summary of what I did and my checks:

Flasher test. It is voltage directional. I have a 6v/12v led tester and when I connected the flasher to my 6v power supply the tester would flash. So, I know it works properly because that one little LED bulb is virtually zero resistance. I connected the positive side of the flasher to the black wire (powered with the key on) and the negative side to the gray (out to the turn signals). That's it for inside the battery compartment.

Diodes test. I made a Y of the diodes and soldered two male bullets to the positive leads (opposite the band). One female to the twisted together and soldered negative lead (closest to the band). I connected that to my power supply, tested and sure enough it was letting the power through only in one direction as it should.

My connections. One lead from the indicator light goes to the female bullet connector that is the negative side of the two diodes together. The other indicator lead gets grounded. Even grounded directly to the negative of the battery produced no different results.

The two male bullets coming off the positive leads of the diodes were connected to the orange and blue juntions that the indicator leads were connected to originally. (this junction is the 3 way connector from the main harness that joins the front and back leads to the indicator bulb)

Turned on the key and the turn signals will not light up. Switching the indicator from LED to incandescent made no change.

Took out the diodes, put the incandescent signal bulbs back in and everything works as it should. Again switching the LED and the incandescent indicator bulb made no difference.

Triple checked everything in the headlight bucket and made sure nothing was connected wrong. (It would actually be hard to do it wrong since everything is color coded well)

In use, NONE of the LEDs in the sockets would light. Before I switched the flashers out they at least lit up but would not flash. I do not understand why my results are different now but I tried every different combination trying to discover the variable to no avail.

If you can see something here that I have done wrong please point it out. Everything in your conversion write up made sense so I see no errors there and it must be something special about my CL70 but damned if I can find it. (sigh) Thanks for taking the time to read this long, sad story. ;^)
