RE: [Honda-C70] Help/Advice Kick Starting my Honda c70 with Lifan 4-stroke Engine...

Michael : I agree in part. So why are Harley sportsters now 883 when they were called 900 in the 60`s . Are they trying to make big bikes sound small enough to be a first bike for new riders ? Maybe we should have started a new topic for this . Oops. Baby Huey`s 2 cents

I don't think they lie, they just make it easier for us consumers by rounding the number, either up or down. As they say, size does not matter, it is what you do with with what you have that counts!

Cup : To tell if the choke is on or off ,remove the pod air cleaner or rubber intake hose if the bike has the stock air cleaner , & look at the butterfly plate in the end of the carb . That is the choke plate. Move the lever & watch . When the lever closes the plate the choke is ON . A cold motor will usually need choke to start a warm motor may or may not. DRATV.com sells Lafan motor & has a section on how to install them . You might check there to see if he has info you can use with your project problem bike. As far as size , a HONDA C70 has 72cc cast right on the base of the cylinder. So a 97 would likely be called a 100 . My old Norton 850 was 824cc . ALL the companies lie about size. So I have a Honda c70 with a Lifan 4-stroke Engine that reads 97 cm^3 on the side. The guy on CL I bought it from tells me it's 100cc though which I'm pretty sure Lifan doesn't make. The bikes wires are not intact so using the button to start it is out of the question for right now, and although I was able to drive it after push starting it down a hill I cannot for the life of me get it to kick start.

Does anyone have any experience with this issue and any info on what I might be doing wrong?

Bike has gas, oil, and a brand new spark plug. I have read to open the choke all the way but I can't find any diagrams online or photos on how to do this for my engine model. There are no labels. The lever goes up or down. Yesterday it push started while down.

This is my first bike and it's a real fixer upper (obviously) but I'm enjoying learning about it and boy was riding it around a blast yesterday. Just wish I didn't need someone pushing me to get it going.

Planning on doing the electrics soon as I can, I guess once that's taken care of kick starting won't be as important?

A kick start check list or a link to a manual or starting guide with photos would be awesome!
