RE: [Honda-C70] 1981 C-70-Gummed carburator

Joey: I bought my clone carb from DRATV through an Ebay auction before I knew about this group .In fact that is where I learned about yahoo c70. It was said to fit 80/81 c70 `s as an exact replacement. No rejeting or modifying anything needed . I took it completely apart to inspect & make sure everything was OK , jets in tight gaskets where they should be ect. It was & still is in my opinion a better carb than the OEM one & works perfectly. You can get a new petcock from DRATV & the used idle jet from the Ebay seller & spend nearly as much as the new carb from DRATV. It is your choice but I would go with the new carb that is already clean over a used jet that may need cleaning. Good Luck ! Baby Huey PS the way to clean an idle jet is with the brass wire from a BBQ grill brush , it is brass like the jet so it isn`t likely to make the hole larger.

The press fit jet was the one gummed up.I found one used on Ebay. Am I better off with a new carb?My cockpit-res.-off-on- is not working either. What carb will be the one I need to buy and if you can tell me where to find it because I want less problems with one that is known to be correct with out e fitting. Thanks

Joey : The brass jet that fits in the middle of the float is the main jet & that jet can be unscrewed & replaced at DRATV or A Honda shop . The press fit idle jet off to the side is the one that is non replaceable . You may still be in luck if the main jet is the one you drilled . There is a number stamped on the jet to tell what size you need . Baby Huey

I did that and it didn't do anything.Another question is since I drilled the pilot jet,it now starts cold with out the choke. Why would that be?

Joey : Try putting your old plug back in . If it is not the same number it may be a resistor plug & your plug cap may already have a resistor. Or it may not be gaped right. Good Luck ! Baby Huey

I cleaned my carb today,I re installed it,new spark plug as well.I drilled out the pilot jet just enough.Brass jet that sits in the middle of the bowl was completely plugged. My question is:Why does it seem the bike is laboring more to get to 43 MPH.It idles great, but I have noticed that now if I am at top speed,it no longer is giving me the small back fires and sputters when I let off and it just does not seem to want to hit 45MPH as it used to at this point.Any suggestions? The bike is running great.
