Marc: I agree with Bill that the new carb is probably leaking & that you need to check the dip stick to find out if gas has mixed with your oil . The fact that you shut the petcock off & still had a leak would be unusual . If the float bowl drain screw was leaking the gas would go down the drain tube & drip on the ground or foot peg bracket if that is where the tube lined up. But the total amount of gas would be about 1/4 cup on my 81 . I know the 82/83`s have a bigger float bowl so 1/3 cup might still be tops unless the petcock was also leaking . So swapping the whole float bowl & petcock from your old carb to the new carb would be something to try. The float chamber has a tiny vent tube that runs from the bottom to above the fuel level .If that is cracked or not sealed in the bottom ,that could leak out the drain tube. Normally gas would not get to run down the into the cylinder because of the vent, so lets hope gas hasn`t leaked into your oil . Good Luck ! Baby Huey

Thanks for the quick response! I'll check it out tomorrow.
In the event that what you described is indeed what is happening, what do I need to do to fix the problem? I'm still relatively new to fixing stuff like this and I certainly don't want to disassemble something that doesn't need to be therefore creating much, much more work!
