Subject: [Honda-C70] 1982 c70 with Carb. Trouble
Hi , my wife's bike 82 c70 has a odd I think carb problem. when we bought it the idle jet was plugged and it had a flat spot mid range almost like it was starving for fuel but if you full throttle from there it would run right up to top speed, we cleaned the idle jet it idles great but still has the funny mid range problem . The carb slide needle is not adjustable, you can't move the clip. So, I tried putting a washer under the needle clip to richen it up hoping that would cure the flat spot, no change. I put two more washers under it now it's definitely too rich. What's funny now it's running too rich and when you throttled it out it would hit that flat spot again. It's like two different problems. I ordered a brand new carb, I looked it over and the main and idle jet have no markings on it what so ever. I tried it and the bike would not start at all took it back off and checked it out put the old carb jets in it tried to start it still would not start until I screwed the lean screw all the way in and got it to start but I think the slide is up a little ( idle screw turned in too far ) because the throttle response is a little slow returning to idle. If I turn the lean screw out a quarter of a turn it slows the idle down to almost stall. I've checked the valves, I checked the cdi for full advance, I bought a new spark plug to try tomorrow. This bike has 133 miles on it. If it turns out that the plug was sad and my old carb was ok and the new carb was just a bad carb I will be surprised. Jay R.
