New Year's Resolutions?
I know people are supposed to have resolutions every year, and no one ever keeps them (at least I admit I don't, because I never even make them!).
Well, this year I have one. I'm going to lose weight! I'm almost 6 foot, and I feel I look my best between 135-140. I remember at 130, people thought I was too thin. So, I'm going to aim for 140. That's 15 pounds. ugh. My goal is to have this done by June. I don't know if I can do this. The last time I weighed 140 was when I first became pregnant with my daughter in 2002.
My body BEGS to stay between 150-155 (size 8 or 10). I gained to that point right out of high school, and lost it, and have yo-yoed since then. I know I'm not "heavy", but I don't "look right" in everything I want to wear. Women at a size 6 have more options than those in an 8 or a 10.
I have limited exercize options due to where I live, and I'm either always at my husband's office or here at home chasing kids. And, there's nowhere within 15 miles that has an excercize place. I could walk around town, but how boring is that? I eat well, so I know my problem is excercise. That's most likely most peoples' problem!
So, what to do for excercise? One thought I had was to have Karl and I drive to a city that has the weapons version of Hungar Kung fu, but there's a babysitter problem. The one city that has it is a 45 minute drive. That doesn't sound practical. But, it would be a nice way to go on a "date" once a week! We thought about it last year, but scrapped it due to distance. Maybe it IS worth it, as long as we are dedicated and practice???
Oh well. I'm going to try SO hard to lose this! Oh, and I don't "do" those cheesy womens' work out places. If I'm going to excercise, I'm going to learn something useful.

We like your style - none of this 15 lbs in five days stuff. We are going to be doing a "1 lb a week" weight loss plan at our site next week. We'll be looking forward to following your journey!

Thank you ladies! My goal is to fit back into my Kay Unger & Hugo Buscati dresses once again!
Before kids, custom tailored. After kids, Whatever fits. And, I'm tired of that! My best asset is my long legs, and they need to be in shape by swimsuit season!

I already posted mine the other day on my blog
Actually, they are more like dreams and expectations for 2006. The last New Year's resolution I made was to never make another one again and I've stuck to it.
BTW - Don't worry so much about calories. Concentrate more on nutrition. Stay away from the bread (including cereal) and processed sugar, that will make a huge difference.

Frankly, I don't think you need to lose anything, you look great! But if you must then good luck! I struggle with it and its so hard.

If you're looking for martial arts with exercise and practicality involved, I'd go find a boxing gym. not one of those pansy taebo punching-in-the-air-dance-disguised-as-maartial-arts crap; but real boxing skills. Or perhaps even better, Muay Thai. For weapons, I'd study Kali (or whatever derivative name for Filipino martial arts is being used) that has not been diluted of its practicality. Nothing like specialized and improvised use of impact and bladed weapons. Especially stickfighting and knife combatives. Since you like handguns, you should also find an instructor who has an intimate familiarity with firearms. There's so much crap that are taught in martial arts- especially unarmed defenses against attackers wielding a firearm or knife.
Of course, this is assuming you are looking for function as well as exercise. Also, ground grappling is invaluable.
Just a suggestion.

I love your blog. I am six foot tall and I weigh 135. I have several children, but I have always been able to lose the weight after being pregnant. I don’t really exercise but I have a certain diet. It includes lean meat, fish vegetables and fruit. We use olive oil on everything including baked potatoes. I have also become an angry Republican Mom. BTW I live in Central Illinois.
